Public swimming pools tend to be less crowded during the week than they will be on weekends; if you wish to participate in lane swimming, however, then arriving early could be necessary.
If you plan to visit a public pool, it is recommended to obtain an Octupus card upon your arrival in Hong Kong. Once loaded with money, this card allows entry into MTR stations as well as public pools that charge admission. These cards can be found at many convenience stores or MTR ticket offices; also valid on bus, tram and minibus services as well as purchasing food and drinks at certain supermarkets.
