Roulette is an engaging and accessible casino game of pure chance that appeals to players of all skill levels. A croupier (the casino dealer) spins the wheel before throwing in a small ball that bounces around until landing into one of the pockets that mark a specific number on the numbered roulette wheel – if this number was where your bet was placed, congratulations – your luck has changed and you win.
The house edge in roulette derives from European-style wheels containing two additional green spaces marked 0 and 00; on American tables however there is only one such compartment marked 0. If a ball lands in either of these green spots all outside bets lose.
Players make bets by placing their chips on a special betting mat laid out before the wheel is spun, which has groups for different numbers or categories of numbers that allow for easier gambling without risking all your money if it turns out that a bet fails.
Before the croupier throws the ball, players can still place bets by requesting “colour” chips from the dealer – these coloured chips correspond with the minimum bet for that table and provide players with additional chips in accordance with how many they gave plus what has already been bet.
Straight Bet, also referred to as a pair or manque bet, is the easiest form of bet in Roulette. Simply place your chips directly on the dividing line between rows 0-3 on the grid. Winning this bet pays out 17-1; for more riskier options such as Line or Six Number Bet (place chips so that they straddle two rows on grid) this has higher payout but less reliability.
