Swimming is an ideal way to beat the heat this summer and is great for both your mind and body. Swimming is a low-impact form of exercise that reduces stress while increasing energy levels – three sessions every week could leave you feeling more energetic! Plus, it makes a fun social activity you can do together or even alone – no wonder swimming ranks fourth most popular recreational activity among Hong Kongers!
Hong Kong offers plenty of swimming pools to cool off in, from public pools offering water play areas to ones overlooking iconic harbours – and there’s even one with beautiful sunrise and sunset views!
One of the best places to cool off in Hong Kong is at Victoria Park swimming complex, funded in part by HK Jockey Club. Opened on 16 October 1957, this world-class facility includes 50×20-metre pools, multipurpose pools and the city’s largest spectator stand for swimming pool viewing.
However, Victoria Park Swimming Pool is no longer open for group training and a new indoor pool has been built on an adjacent site; both can be seen marked on this helpful map. Victoria Park swimming pool will eventually be demolished with fears it won’t be replaced in its original capacity in future.
Tseung Kwan O Destination Public Pool opened in 1990 and quickly became one of the city’s major public swimming pools, popular among children for its giant water playground with slides, an aqua tunnel and outdoor kid lagoon – sure to keep children busy all day!
Hammer Hill swimming pool, at an incredible HK$300 million investment, provides one of the only indoor pools with breathtaking views of Hong Kong Harbour. Visitors who appreciate gorgeous sunrise or sunset views should not miss visiting this oasis of calm!
If you’re just looking for a quick dip or relaxing swim, there are numerous smaller pools throughout the city that make for an excellent quick dip or relaxing swim. These can be found at large multi-tower developments like Ocean Shores and Park Island as well as single tower developments like The Belchers or Park Island.
Swimming is an integral component of healthy lifestyle and should be enjoyed by all! But it’s important to remember that not everyone feels confident swimming, so if anyone in your circle experiences any anxiety around water it might be worthwhile enrolling for lessons before venturing out into open waters.
